Hashtag Sports Awards set the benchmark for effective engagement in the global sports media and marketing industries.
Taking place in the midst of our annual conference in NYC, we bubble up top trends and proven practices to help marketers and creators build stronger direct-to-fan relationships.
Individuals and organizations who win Hashtag Sports Awards will be viewed as experts in engaging the modern sports fan—a highly coveted consumer.
Winning one of our awards will differentiate your organization in the increasingly digital sports landscape by showcasing engagement expertise as well as adding credibility to your work by proving the effectiveness of projects/results.
It will mean you've created game-changing work that delivered results and set new benchmarks for fan engagement. Winning means industry-wide exposure, new business, and more opportunities. Entering helps raise your company's engagement bar to new levels and future-proofs you for the next generation of fans.
Entries opened in January 2019 and will close April 18, 2019. Judging will begin April 22 and finalists will be announced in May. The live show will take place June 25, 2019 in New York City.
The Hashtag Sports Awards will feature over thirty categories spread across eight topics: Content, Campaigns, Experience, Partnerships, Entertainment, Digital & Social, Good, Athletes & Creators. View a full list of categories with their descriptions here.
We have assembled a diverse group of judges to review entries for each panel. Judges include brand CMOs, sports marketers, media executives, athletes and creators. Together, the judging panels comprise the Engagement Academy for Sports & Entertainment, a prestigious group designed to put the fan first and push the industry forward.
Judges will review and score entries based on the following criteria: engagement; creativity & innovation; and results & impacts.
Any organization who engages, or aids in engaging, fans or consumers through sports-related content, campaigns, partnerships, or experiences may enter work produced during the period of January 1, 2018 - April 1, 2019. This includes brands, agencies, teams, leagues, properties, digital publishers, media networks, etc.
Athletes & Creators are nominated by Hashtag Sports staff and press and do not submit directly.
For starters, athletes and creators are nominated by Hashtag Sports staff and a committee of press and do not submit entries themselves. More info on their nominations is available here.
Winners in the Athletes & Creators categories will be determined by a combination of peer-judging and fan-voting. Fans will be able to vote for their favorite athletes and sports influencers using unique hashtags on social media. The fan-voting period runs March 5-29, 2019.
Fans may vote in in the Athletes & Creators categories by tweeting the name of their favorite nominee with the unique category hashtag and #HSAwards. Click here to view nominees, category hashtags, and/or vote.
Submissions are put forward by Hashtag Sports staff and our predetermined nominating committee, a group selected based on their knowledge of the social media landscape and their professional opinion of which athletes and creators are excelling at engagement.
Fan voting is our method of giving the fans a voice on who they believe is most engaging. Fan voting involves votes cast by a fan on behalf of their favorite athlete or creator via a personal Twitter account. Fan votes will be combined with scores from our judging panel to determine the winners in the Athletes & Creators categories.

Of course! In fact, we encourage you to enter multiple categories—even for the same work. Our most prestigious award for organizations is the Outstanding Achievement in Overall Engagement. This award honors the single entity who is most awarded or highly rated that year so it is beneficial to be in the running across multiple categories. Consider it our “Best in Show.”
You will receive a 30% discount on fees for all entries after the first entry (automatically applied). If you’re entering the same work into multiple categories, all entries will be judged separately for each category it is entered into to.
No. Hashtag Sports staff and a nominating committee assembled of 25 members of the press has been pre-selected to nominate this group.
All entries require basic information about the entrant organization, engagement objectives and results, and the samples of the work (for categories related to content or campaigns).
We also require all entrants to submit an image (minimum 2400 x 1200 pixels) representing the entry (for use in our gallery or public display of finalists on our website).
If selected as a finalist, your content/campaign will be displayed in our gallery and shown during the live show. In order to maintain the highest resolution, we ask you to upload the original video file or provide a way for us to download the original file.
For ease of uploading, we highly recommend uploading the video to Vimeo or Dropbox. If the video has the be password protected, make sure to submit the password within your entry.
Yes, this is an option. You can upload the .mov or .mp4 file directly into our entry portal (maximum 500MB). However, please keep in mind that upload times are dependent upon your internet connection. If you already have the original file uploaded to Dropbox or Vimeo, it will likely make for an easier entry process to provide the video URL.
If you have all your information ready, the application should take no more than 15 minutes. This does not include attachment upload time. Please ensure you have a strong and stable internet connection if uploading attachments.
You will receive a confirmation email within a few hours of submitting your entry with your entry ID. Judging will not begin until after the last entry date (April 18, 2019). After the deadline has passed, you will receive an email from our team if you have been selected as a finalist.
Due to a high volume of expected entries, we may not be able to notify all entrants of their standing. Finalists will be notified in May via email.
Yes, Hashtag Sports prides itself on it’s large (and growing) international community. Submissions outside the U.S. are eligible in all categories.

You will be charged the price for the period during which you successfully submit your work. The starting date of the actual entry does not matter when it comes to entry fees.
For example: If you started entering your entry on the last day of the first deadline but did not submit it until the second deadline, you will be charged the second deadline entry fee since that is when you submitted your entry to be put in the running for judging.
Your credit card will be charged at the end of the entry process.
Invoices are available for download on the confirmation page after submitting your entry. You may also request an invoice by contacting us with your entry ID and the name on the account. Please note that requests take up to two weeks to process.
