Best in Engagement for Change
Colin Kaepernick needs no introduction and his work needs no explanation. The quarterback-turned-activist is a household name (on both sides of the political aisle) for his National Anthem protest and on-going fight for criminal justice reform. Last fall, a controversial Nike ad featuring Kaepernick set social media on fire, drawing a 1,400% increase in social buzz for what was already one of the world’s most famous brands.
With his words partially silenced by the settlement of a collusion case against the NFL, the star has let his actions do the talking. Despite being without a job in 2018, Kaepernick donated over $1M to various charities and invited celebrities including Steph Curry, Serena Williams, and Meek Mill to match his efforts. This spring he hosted his sixth annual “Know Your Rights” camp to raise awareness on higher education, self empowerment, and instructions on how to properly interact with law enforcement.
Over the weekend, we wrapped up our 6th #KnowYourRightsCamp. We can’t explain how grateful we are to everyone who came out to support. One person isn’t going to change everything-It’s going to take all of us. Thank you Baltimore for experiencing this with us!— Colin Kaepernick (@Kaepernick7) March 26, 2019
