2019 Shortlist

Megan Rapinoe

Finalist

Best in Engagement for Change

How Does This Individual Represent “Excellence in Engagement”?

In 2015, Rapinoe helped secure a World Cup win for the USWNT, but her biggest achievements may lie off the pitch. Becoming an advocate for equal pay, Rapinoe became one of the first women’s soccer players to pledge 1% of her wages to soccer related charities. Her fight for change doesn’t stop there. In 2016, she supported Colin Kaepernick in an attempt to draw awareness to social inequality by kneeling during the National Anthem.

Now wearing the Captain’s armband for the USWNT heading into the Women’s World Cup this summer, Rapinoe may be the squad’s most entertaining and outgoing personality. For her, that means letting fans know who she is unapologetically and encouraging everyone to “best your best you” (the name of her clothing and lifestyle brand).
